In 2014, the PM promised to clean up river Yamuna. His minister Nitin Gadkiri promised to start ferry service for tourists between Delhi and Agra, while UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath promised to construct a barrage downstream of Taj Mahal. Nothing has been done. The Yamuna remains dry and heavily polluted. The river should be desilted, dredged and cleaned. Encroachments on flood plains have to be demolished. A minimum flow to sustain aqua life should be maintained round the year. The union and the state govts should immediately get into action mode, and restore the original glory of Yamuna, one of the holiest rivers.

Also, a national rivers policy should be announced, and constitution of a central rivers authority.
