We, at Shisha Nova, have been deeply affected by the current legislation surrounding shisha tobacco in Canada. Our company is built on a foundation of cultural appreciation and respect for this traditional practice. We believe it's time to amend the Canadian flavoured tobacco ban that currently prohibits shisha tobacco.

The ban on flavoured tobacco has inadvertently impacted our ability to provide our customers with a culturally significant product - shisha. This is despite other substances like marijuana and alcohol, which face similar health arguments, being legally sold with attractive flavourings.

Moreover, we urge for a correction in taxation policies so that only the actual tobacco content is taxed. Currently, even the juices mixed with the tobacco are being taxed as if they were tobacco themselves. This not only inflates prices unnecessarily but also seems unfair when compared to other products like alcohol where mixers are not subjected to such taxes.

According to Statistics Canada (2017), over 900,000 Canadians reported smoking waterpipe at least once in their lifetime - highlighting its cultural significance within certain communities across Canada.

We believe it's time for change - a change that respects cultural practices while ensuring fair taxation policies. We ask you to join us in advocating for an amendment of these laws so that we can continue providing our customers with affordable and culturally significant products without unjust taxes or prohibitions.
