SAPPORO: GIVE WORKERS A FAIR CHANCE TO BID ON PURCHASING ANCHOR BREWING!

DELAY HANDING OVER CONTROL OF YOUR ASSETS FOR ONE MONTH! 

On Wednesday, July 12, Sapporo announced that they would be shuttering Anchor Brewing, a century-old beloved brand that represents the spirit of San Francisco. They announced that operations would cease in only 3 weeks, and that on August 2, 2023 they would give all of their assets over to a third party. 

Workers at Anchor immediately mobilized to attempt to save the brewery by exploring purchasing and running the brewery as a worker co-op. They engaged professionals and experts on cooperative conversion. 

On July 20, Sapporo informed the workers that the company would consider a legitimate offer with a source of funding from the workers. Sapporo stated that they would be able to share financial information with workers as soon as the workers presented a designated representative, which they did on July 21. 

On July 27, Sapporo's advisors informed the workers' representative that they were refusing to share the financial information that had been provided to other prospective buyers.

Sapporo stated that they would take an offer seriously from us. Workers have taken this process seriously, through huge emotional turmoil, supporting themselves and their families, and continuing to show up to produce Anchor. Workers have engaged professionals in Project Equity and the Tuttle Law Group who have vast amounts of experience in cooperative conversions. Sapporo has decided to waste their time and refuse to provide the information they need to present a legitimate offer.

Sapporo, do right by Anchor workers and all of San Francisco. 
Give us a fair shot to purchase and run the brewery we love. Give us one month to put together a fair offer.
