Why this petition matters

Summary

The signatories of this manifesto are calling for responsible and ethical regulation of the development and use of artificial intelligence (AI). They believe that the rapid growth of AI leaves little room for critical examination and consideration of the technology's repercussions and that it is crucial for all stakeholders, including academics, researchers, developers, policymakers, and the general public, to collaborate in order to ensure that AI is created and utilized in ways that advance the common good and benefit all of humankind. They suggest controlling the development of AI, emphasizing economic justice and preventing discrimination and bias, prioritizing open-source, accessible-to-all AI, and taking action now before it is too late.

Full manifest

The rate of artificial intelligence (AI) improvement has reached an unparalleled level, with exponential growth leading to uncharted routes and results. This technology's progress has reached a stage where it is difficult for humans to keep up, leaving us with little time or space to think, assess, and make deliberate judgments with global consensus.

The race to create artificial intelligence (AI) is now dominated by big firms investing billions of dollars in it, leaving the general people as observers of what AI can and will do to their lives. We are seeing the rapid growth of artificial intelligence, which provides little room for critical examination or consideration of the technology's repercussions.

This manifest is a call to action for all AI community stakeholders, including academics, researchers, developers, policymakers, and the general public, to regulate the rise of AI and emphasize its responsible application. We must collaborate to guarantee that artificial intelligence is created and utilized in ways that advance the common good and benefit all of humankind. We can no longer afford to merely observe the evolution of this technology; it is time to seize control and define its destiny.

We, the signatories, think that the development of artificial intelligence (AI) must be controlled. It is imperative that we, as humans, take the time to examine what we want to develop with AI and what AI will replace in our lives, as well as the reasons for doing so.

We must emphasize economic justice and guarantee that the creation and use of artificial intelligence do not perpetuate current imbalances and prejudice. Additionally, we must be careful in tackling prejudice in AI systems and algorithms, which can perpetuate discrimination and exclusion. It is essential that we work towards a more inclusive and fair future for everybody, in which AI is developed and utilized for the benefit of mankind as a whole.

We are aware that the development of AI to date has been criticized several times for propagating discrimination and bias, and it is imperative that we take measures to prevent such problems in the future. Ethical issues must be at the forefront of AI research and usage, and we must work toward a future in which AI serves the interests of all members of society.

We should not pursue the maximal development of artificial intelligence without contemplating its potential repercussions. We must be proactive in establishing rules and guidelines for the development and application of this potent technology to ensure that it is used for the good of all humanity.

We think that an open-source, accessible-to-all form of artificial intelligence should be prioritized so that everyone has access to the technology and may utilize it for useful purposes. This strategy will ensure that AI is utilized for the advantage of society as a whole, as opposed to a privileged few.

Let's hit pause and talk.

We want all members of the AI community, including academics, developers, policymakers, and the general public, to join us in our endeavor to slow down the development of AI and emphasize its responsible and ethical use. We must collaborate to guarantee that AI is created and utilized in a manner that promotes the common good, retains human qualities, and benefits all of mankind.

It is critical to act now before it is too late because the development of AI is happening at an exponential rate and its impact on society is becoming increasingly significant. As AI becomes more advanced, it has the potential to greatly improve many aspects of our lives, such as healthcare, transportation, and education. However, if we do not take the time to consider the potential consequences of this technology and take action to mitigate any negative effects, we risk creating a future where AI exacerbates existing inequalities and discrimination.

Moreover, it is important to remember that AI is a powerful tool that can be used for good or bad depending on its design and implementation. Without proper oversight and regulation, AI can be used to perpetuate human biases and discrimination or even to create weaponized systems. It is crucial to establish ethical guidelines and regulations before it becomes too late and the technology becomes too advanced to be controlled.

In addition, the economic and social impact of AI is already being felt, and it is important to ensure that its benefits are shared equitably among all members of society. We must act now to ensure that AI is developed and used in ways that promote economic justice and do not perpetuate existing inequalities.

We are unambiguously pro-AI and pro-human development, but at a rate that we can manage, we can make informed judgments and ensure that this development has the most positive effects on humanity.
