End the Registration of FCI White Swiss Shepherds as AKC German Shepherds
End the Registration of FCI White Swiss Shepherds as AKC German Shepherds
Why this petition matters
The AKC (American Kennel Club) is actively registering FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale - international kennel club) Berger Blanc Suisse (White Swiss Shepherd) dogs as German Shepherds via Foreign Registration.
By design, Berger Blanc Suisse are not within the AKC German Shepherd standard, because they have been bred to the FCI BBS standard. By color alone, they are Disqualified from the AKC GSD breed ring. Not only this, but breeding BBS to GSDs can cause pigmentation problems in white and colored puppies - creating a washed out tan on the Black and Tan or sable puppies and a more biscuit color on the white puppies. This is a problem for enthusiasts of both the AKC GSD and the FCI BBS. Please sign this petition to help us end the registration of FCI BBS as AKC GSDs.
Furthermore, every time an FCI BBS is registered as an AKC GSD, it delays the possibility of separate recognition for the BBS as it’s own breed. As an owner of both German Shepherds and Berger Blanc Suisse, I can say that allowing this practice to continue only presents problems for both breeds, which could be ended easily if AKC were to stop allowing this improper registration to continue. The correct way to register an imported BBS a this time is via Federación Canófila de Puerto Rico (FCPR).
