Anaheim and surrounding community residents, along with visitors oppose the Salt Development proposal to construct over 500 homes next to the peaceful Deer Canyon Nature Preserve. The proposed development will be the tallest building constructed within the community and include thousands of additional cars. The parking garage will be as tall as the Disney Land parking garage! There will also be multiple office towers and a loud Sky Deck (pool and event space) that will tower over the Nature Preserve. There are several critical concerns affecting our community, environment, and the delicate balance of nature.

         1.      Emergency Evacuation Routes: The excessive construction compromises safe evacuation routes in emergencies, putting existing residents at risk. The area is already known for congested traffic and problematic evacuation routes and no reasonable solution has been provided.

         2.      Impact on Wildlife and Ecology: Building within Deer Canyon disrupts fragile ecosystems, endangering wildlife and irreplaceable flora.

         3.      Traffic Congestion and Changes: The proposed construction will significantly worsen traffic flow on Santa Ana Canyon Road, impacting the community’s daily life.

         4.      Destruction of City-Planned Scenic Corridor: The proposal directly contradicts the aesthetic and functional designs planned by city officials, including a rezone from the existing planned development tract which is more responsible for the area.

         5.      Better Alternative Locations: There are more suitable locations within District 6 and other parts of Anaheim for this structure that do not encroach upon invaluable natural reserves.

         6.      Negation of Zoning Intent: This proposal defies city planners’ zoning intentions and undermines established guidelines.

         7.      Environmental Destruction: Cutting into the hillside and natural landscape devastates the existing beauty and vital plant life.

         8.      Fire Risk: The increased population density and proximity to power lines raise alarming concerns regarding fire hazards within the Canyon..

         9.      Utilities Overconsumption: The substantial rise in water and utilities usage strains resources and exacerbates environmental impact. The East Anaheim area is considered fully built out due to the rural logistics.

         10.     Noise Pollution: The rooftop bar and pool deck with numerous speakers will inflict unwarranted noise pollution on the community and within the neighboring preserve.

         11.     Reflection and Lighting Concerns: Reflective windows and excessive lighting disrupt neighboring homes and roads, impacting their peace and safety.

         12.     Impact on Schools and Bussing: The influx of residents will strain school resources and affects safe transportation for students.

         13.     Breaching Natural Barriers: The proposal blurs the line between residential and commercial zones, disrupting the planned community structure.

         14.     Structural Support Concerns: The development threatens nearby structures’ foundational support, posing risks to existing properties.

         15.     Optimal Land Use: The overall area, known commonly as "Deer Canyon"can serve a more harmonious purpose that alings alongside the neighboring preserve.

We urge the City of Anaheim to deny Salt Development’s “Hills Preserve” proposal in favor of preserving the integrity of Deer Canyon and the Nature Preserve, ensuring the well-being of this community.
