Why this petition matters

Started by Roger Davis

The Howard County government is planning on doing a stream restoration like the one seen in the picture above, for pollution credits, on the Plumtree Branch Stream behind Dunloggin Middle School. The project as proposed would allow for the removal of up to 4 acres of mature forest along the stream in a neighborhood and possibly even more with the new addition of an “access road” through the forest.

This forest and stream provide tremendous benefits to the community and are habitat for birds, mammals, insects, fish, reptiles, amphibians, and bats.

Please tell Howard County to withdraw from this plan and start over with a new plan that includes the residents and will address the stormwater runoff where it is occurring and leave the forest alone!

The County is waiting to receive their permit from the Maryland Department of the Environment right now.

THIS MATTER IS URGENT!!

Please - Add your signature to oppose the project!

Please contact our County Council members (call 410-313-2001 or email councilmail@howardcountymd.gov) and County Executive Calvin Ball (call 410-313-2013 or email cball@howardcountymd.gov)

THE COUNTY NEEDS TO HEAR FROM ALL OF US! THIS COULD BE YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD THE NEXT TIME.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Some recent comments and concerns regarding Stream Restorations include:

  • They provide tremendous profit to private contractors at the expense of residents and our environment.
  • They do not have to achieve their stated goals and are prone to failure, they have a limited life expectancy.
  • They are one of the most environmentally harmful techniques performed to meet EPA requirements.
  • They are favored by county bureaucrats and criticized by scientists.
  • They destroy habitat and functioning ecosystems with little regard for the existing wildlife.
  •  This project could increase flooding which could impact neighboring homes.
  • They are a waste of taxpayer dollars who have little to no say about the approval of these projects.
