In 2023, two Hanover school board members were present and actively supporting the anti trans and anti queer “One Million March for Children” in Manitoba.  These board members and almost half of the Hanover school board have been planning anti queer, anti trans and anti Indigenous school board policy and practice that will harm Hanover students and staff. On April 2/24 the Hanover board chair and several board members allowed and thanked a transphobic parent to present an oral and written presentation against trans and gender diverse students to not use the change room that aligns with their gender who also called for no trans women staff in girls change rooms.https://steinbachonline.com/articles/school-board-considers-request-for-gender-neutral-washrooms-changing-rooms

 Hanover board members also tried to pass a motion that excludes non binary students from inclusive sex education. Hanover school board successfully passed a motion on April 2/24 that allowed them to control hiring practices to likely prevent hiring of diverse faculty or to try to hire faculty who will support their queerphobic and racist agenda in spite of some board members who tried to defeat the motion. Some board members are also planning to restrict Indigenous education in Hanover schools as “it’s racist to whites”, along with planning motions to ban Pride symbols. All these actions are discriminatory to 2slgbtI+ and Indigenous students and faculty, and these board members and the board chair are in violation of Manitoba education law, Hanover diversity policy, Manitoba Human Rights Code, and the TRC Calls to Action and MMIWG2s Calls for Justice. Therefore, we ask you to please sign this petition calling for Manitoba Education Minister Honourable Nello Altomare to 1) exclude these discriminatory board members from serving on the Hanover school board , 2) do a thorough evaluation of past, present and upcoming motions that affect Hanover students and staff, and 3) provide a permanent oversight person to ensure Hanover school board members follow educational law, diversity policy, human rights codes and TRC Calls to Action and MMIWG2s+ Calls for Justice in all Hanover board policy and practices.
