Why this petition matters

Started by Accelerating Social Good

LET'S BRING EMPATHY AND KINDNESS BACK INTO OUR WORKPLACES. HOW? BY SENDING A LOUD MESSAGE WE WANT A NEW WORLD, AN INCLUSIVE WORLD WHERE EVERYONE CAN FEEL SEEN AND HEARD, WHERE EVERYONE CAN FEEL WORTHY, REGARDLESS OF THEIR NEED FOR MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT.

The most painful event in someone’s life: onset of a mental health disorder (please read serious brain disorder) that leads to a level of stigmatization that makes you feel alienated and isolated from the rest of mankind. That leaves you feeling unworthy.

We are all members of one race, the human race. And, we all deserve to feel worthy of love and belonging.

Unfortunately due to stigma in our workplaces, those with a serious brain disorder feel neither. Some of us are fired or laid off when we disclose our condition. Others don’t speak up because of stigma. We don’t reach out for support but suffer in silence and in shame.

And, for those courageous enough to reach out for help, it’s often not there, leaving us feeling uncared for and unsupported.

STIGMATIZED. UNSUPPORTED. FIRED. LEFT FEELING UNWORTHY.

Whether you have a colleague, friend, family member or you yourself are plagued with a mental health condition you know how painful the journey is to getting the support and respect you deserve.

Today 1 in 7 humans are experiencing mental health problems in their place of work yet almost three-quarters (74%) of our leaders have not invested in their employees mental health needs since the onset of the pandemic.

Not surprisingly, 68% of Millennials and 81% of Gen Zers left roles voluntarily & involuntarily for mental health reasons last year compared with 50% in 2019.

Furthermore, over 40% have lost their jobs due to lack of support and workplace stigmatization.

It’s time we stand together and say “NO MORE!”

Your signature means that you say “no more” and stand up to the injustice of workplace stigmatization of mental health conditions.

No more to lack of empathy and kindness.

No more to the lack of needed mental health programs and supports for all of us in our workplaces.

Let us stand together and ensure we create the world we deserve, a future we would be proud to have our children grow up in.

HOW CAN YOU HELP? 6 SIMPLE CALLS TO ACTION YOU CAN TAKE. YOU DECIDE WHAT TYPE OF WORLD YOU WANT TO LIVE IN. WHAT TYPE OF WORLD YOU WANT YOUR CHILDREN TO GROW UP IN.

There are so many ways that you can be a part of this revolution. We need your help to make the impact on behalf of those suffering in silence and shame behind the wall of stigma. Those who are reaching out for support and it’s simply not there.

[1] The first thing you can do is very easy. By signing this petition you are making the first move in supporting this revolution to destigmatize mental health conditions across the globe. And to help bring empathy and kindness and mental health programs and supports into our workplaces for us all.

[2] The second thing is talk to your employer about incorporating or adopting a workplace wellness program so that your place of work can understand how important it is to you, your loved ones and your fellow human beings.

[3] Third, please share our petition with your friends, colleagues and loved ones so that you can include them in this very important movement.

[4] Fourth, write a post on LinkedIn about how important it is to create a safe space for people with mental health conditions, how you want empathy and kindness in your workplaces and how important it is have mental health programs and supports in workplaces for all of us. Be sure to tag us @acceleratingsocialgood or our Founder, @KerryMareeMartin

[5] Fifth, consider becoming a stigma-fighter superhero, take a brick out of the wall of stigma, and join other mental health advocates, nonprofit founders, best-selling authors, politicians, and concerned humans on our Wall of Solidarity. Upload a picture of yourself and support with a selfie.

[6] Sixth, if you have experienced stigma in the workplace or you want to share your perspective on why we need to bring empathy and mental health programs and supports in our work settings, support with a story and help us build the human case.

You decide what kind of world you want to live in. What kind of world you want your children to grow up in.

But, we hope to see you in the world we envision for all of us: a stigma-free world where workplaces are built on a foundation of empathy, kindness and compassion with needed mental health programs and supports in place for us all.

With gratitude for helping us build a world where we all feel worthy.

WHY WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT NOW MORE THAN EVER

It was once thought that when someone disclosed a mental health condition, he/she was possessed, and in need of religious sanction. That understanding evolved over time – but slowly and painfully – affecting a massive amount of people and even subjecting them to inhumane forms of treatment.

Fast forward to today, 2021.

Those with mental health conditions are still struggling to gain the respect and necessary support throughout the globe. Stigma is still festering in our workplaces.

Our Founder at Accelerating Social Good, Kerry Martin, is the leader of this revolution. She envisions a world where we all feel worthy. You see because of workplace stigma and a total lack of empathy she was laid off in the throes of a depressive episode. She suffers from bipolar disorder and couldn't disclose. After spiraling further into a deeper and darker depression, she tried to take her own life. Read her story on our website.

But, she is now fighting back on behalf of others.

She imagines a future where we no longer have to fear talking about our mental health conditions. Where we all feel supported by a loving and supportive ecosystem we are trying to create. A future where our workplaces are built on a foundation of empathy and kindness, with needed mental health programs and supports in place for us all.

She envisions us standing united to ensure that no one ever has to feel alone, scared or isolated from the rest of mankind and can finally feel safe. Safe in our workplaces.

Stand with her and help begin a revolution that will empower people to create an informed, empowered and inclusive world for those who feel alienated from mankind.

Where the Kerry Martins of the world don't try and take their own life because of workplace stigma and a lack of empathy and kindness towards each other.

PLEASE HELP US BUILD A WORLD WHERE WE ALL FEEL WORTHY

If you are currently employed at a company you know how hard it is when something is bothering you to discuss it with your leadership team.

In fear that you may be dismissed for something that is out of your control. You would only hope for your leadership to understand through supportive conversation, not dismissal.

Imagine one day if you develop anxiety, depression or any other mental health disorder, who will you turn to if your company doesn’t support you in the way you need?

We all need help at some point in our lives. Imagine losing your parent or child, and needing support?

You shouldn’t have to live in fear everyday that the support will not be there when you need it most.

Rather you should live in peace, knowing that your workplace has adopted a corporate wellness plan and become informed about mental health and has a supportive environment for us all. And that, when you go to work, you can expect empathy and kindness.

You could rest easy knowing you had a safe space to experience one of the most challenging times in your life.

You decide what kind of world you want to live in.

Please sign our petition now. Let's start a revolution and take our world back.

With gratitude and with hope.

~ Kerry & her team of humans at Accelerating Social Good,
Building a world where mental healthcare system doesn't let anyone down & all our children flourish.
