Why this petition matters

The UK government ban on bringing Romanian dogs to the UK until at least their next announcement on 9 July is truly heartbreaking. The ban initially came in due to one or two rescues bringing Ukrainian dogs into the UK under the guise of being Romanian dogs, and the discussion on the risk of rabies being brought to the UK.
The delay in bringing dogs into the UK which have already been waiting since March, many of whom are seniors and coming for palliative care in a family home is heartbreaking for all to see, hear and read. There are now dangers of other dogs being left on the streets, as rescuers homes and shelters fill. Genuine charities also have a responsibility to feed these dogs that are now stuck for the time being in Romania.
Such charitable work in Romania continues despite this. This also includes education & neuter campaigns, which are truly helping to break the cycle of the over population of dogs.
My family and I have first hand experience of adopting from a rescue charity. This charity genuinely care for these animals, they ensure the dogs are well cared for, are micro chipped, are fully vaccinated, including rabies and have the appropriate paperwork and passport in place before transporting any animals.
As a collective and animal lovers this petition is calling on the UK Government to review & re-assess this blanket ban on all genuine charities and asked that genuine and credible charities are allowed to continue their life saving work by bring the dogs into the UK, to their forever homes.
All we ask in this petition is for the Government to listen and hear the voice of each of these animals & the genuine charities representing them who are affected by this blanket ban.
