Remove Robert Malley as Iran Envoy and Jarrett Blanc as Iran Envoy deputy

Iranians of all ages and social groups are protesting to replace the Islamic Republic, a religious dictatorship, with a democratic and secular form of government. Yet, President Biden’s Iran Envoy, Robert Malley is misrepresenting the nature of the protests, pushing for negotiations with the Islamic Republic.

In his most recent tweet on October 22, Robert Malley minimized the Iran protest movement by portraying it as merely a quest by Iranians to have the government in Tehran “respect their human rights and dignity”, ignoring their call for change. Although Mr. Malley apologized for the tweet, we think his latest misstep should be his last.

Iranians, young and old, men and women, rich and poor are joined together in their protests to replace the Islamic Republic, a religious dictatorship, with a democratic and secular form of government. The recognition of this fact is the least we expect from great Western democracies led by the United States.

Iranians no longer believe human rights can be protected under the current theocratic regime. Countless reports and videos of the protests in the past five weeks have amply documented that most Iranians have long crossed the Rubicon and simply reject the Islamic Republic. 

Yet, although the White House has condemned the crackdown, U.S. Special Envoy for Iran Malley and his deputy, Mr. Jarrett Blanc, have shown little appreciation or empathy for Iranian societal aspirations. Despite this administration's focus on progressive values and inclusion, the State Department's current Iran team has little gender, ethnic, or ideological diversity.

Both Mr. Malley and Mr. Blanc have lost credibility. Even Mr. Malley’s team have abandoned him. Former U.S. diplomat Dan Shapiro resigned from the team and commented recently: “for the Iranian people to have freedom there is no way around regime change” which contrasts Malley’s recent statements. 

Now, we respectfully ask President Biden to appoint a new Special Envoy that the people in the U.S. and in Iran can trust and respect as a symbol of America’s commitment to freedom and democracy.

درخواست برکناری رابرت مالی از سمت نماینده ویژه امریکا در امور ایران

اقشار مختلف مردم ایران از هر سن و طبقه ی اجتماعی برای جایگزین کردن جمهوری اسلامی که یک دیکتاتوری دینی است با یک حکومت دموکراتیک سکولار، در حال تظاهرات هستند. با این حال به نظر می‌رسد که رابرت مالی، نماینده ویژه رئیس‌جمهور بایدن در امور ایران، همچنان در حال ادامه مذاکرات با حکومت ایران است و تصویری نادرست از ماهیت تظاهرات در ایران ارائه می‌کند. رابرت مالی در آخرین توییت خود در روز ۲۲ اکتبر تظاهرات اخیر مردم ایران را به درخواست آنان برای رعایت حقوق بشر و احترام به کرامت انسانی توسط حکومت ایران تقلیل داد؛ ادعایی که خواست مردم ایران برای تغییر حکومت ایران را نادیده می‌گیرد.

مردم ایران دیگر بر این باور نیستند که رعایت حقوق بشر در سایه ی حکومت فعلی ممکن خواهد بود. در حالی که در گذشته، بخشی از مردم ایران در جریان جنبش سبز از اصلاحات حمایت می‌کردند، وضعیت کنونی بسیار متفاوت است. گزارش‌ها و تصاویر بی‌شماری که در طول پنج هفته گذشته از تظاهرات در ایران فرستاده شده به وضوح ماهیت اصلی این تظاهرات را نشان می‌دهند. طول مدت تظاهرات، شدت آنها، حضور اقشار گوناگون مردم، و شعارهایی که فریاد زده می‌شوند نمایانگر این است که بیشتر ایرانیان مدت‌هاست که از این مرزها عبور کرده‌اند و دیگرحکومت جمهوری اسلامی را نمی‌پذیرند.

آقای مالی و معاونش آقای بلنک از زمان روی کار آمدن هیچ‌گونه همدلی با مردم ایران در رویایشان برای آزادی نشان نداده‌اند. در ماه‌های اخیر سه عضو تیم آقای مالی از جمله دن شپیرو به دلیل اختلاف‌هایی که با سیاست‌های آقای مالی داشته‌اند استعفا داده‌اند. اخیرا دن شپیرو اظهار کرده است که‌ «برای این که ایرانیان آزادی داشته باشند راهی جز تغییر حکومت نیست»؛ گفته‌ای که در تقابل با بیانات اخیر رابرت مالی است.

متاسفانه آقای مالی و آقای بلنک اعتبار و احترام خود را نزد اکثریت ایرانیانی که خواهان آزادی‌اند از دست داده‌اند. بنابراین احتراما از رئیس‌جمهور بایدن می‌خواهیم که نماینده ویژه جدیدی برای این سمت انتخاب کند، نماینده‌ای که به عنوان نمادی از تعهد امریکا برای برقراری آزادی و دموکراسی مورد اعتماد و احترام مردم امریکا و مردم ایران باشد.
