Why this petition matters

On Tuesday 11th October, Southeastern (SE Trains Ltd.) announced they will be ceasing all train services to London Cannon Street from all stations on the Hayes line, with effect from Sunday 11th December. This means there will be no trains to Cannon Street, St John's or New Cross from Hayes, West Wickham, Eden Park, Elmers End, Clock House, New Beckenham, Lower Sydenham, Catford Bridge or Ladywell.

The decision was made without any public or passenger engagement by Southeastern, nor engagement with their elected representatives. Short 'meet the manager' sessions have been held by Southeastern at extremely short notice, with no publicity to passengers, offering only one session at only some of the stations affected. No impact assessment has been published to date either.

Within hours of the announcement, ward councillors have heard from people who chose their housing, jobs or nurseries based on their ability to get to Cannon Street from local stations. These are people who, by having to change trains at London Bridge, will experience longer journey times and increased chances of missing their connection. For some, this will affect their caring responsibilities and/or nursery arrangements (and costs!). People with mobility challenges, wheelchairs or prams have also expressed their dismay at having to use lifts up and down from the platforms at London Bridge to change trains.

Please sign this petition to ask Southeastern to reverse their unilateral decision to cease the Hayes line service to Cannon Street, without any regard for the inconvenience, difficulties and costs to their passengers.
