Why this petition matters

Started by Alex Brenton

Almost everyone takes pills these days- medicine or vitamins. Pills are sold in Blister packs of mixed aluminium and plastic which is difficult and expensive to recycle so most go to landfill or incineration. Thousands of packets  are used every day.  Pharmaceutical companies should take responsibility for the waste they create, they should collect and recycle them or devise a more  environmentally reusable package.

Huge amounts are discarded every week building a massive mountain of waste. This is environmentally damaging and a waste of natural resources. Aluminium  is very damaging to the environment to mine and refine, but if separate can be recycled easily, so should be reused.

We call on the UK Government to legislate that all medicines and vitamin packets should be recycled or reused and the Pharmaceutical companies should take responsibility for the cost.
