As a result of the healthy start times initiative Hallett was assigned to a Tier I bell schedule, 7:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., for the 2023-2024 school year. Presently, our bell schedule is 9:05 a.m.-4:05 p.m. ---this has been our bell schedule since last school year;  our pre-pandemic bell schedule was 8:45 a.m.-3:50 p.m.

Hallett Academy is the only district-run traditional elementary school without a neighborhood boundary and excluded from an enrollment zone.  Every family in our community has chosen us through the school choice process.  Because of this unique distinction, when school leaders were permitted to appeal the 2023-2024 bell schedule, our Principal, Dominique Jefferson, did so. Mrs. Jefferson surveyed the school community regarding a 7:30 a.m. start time and well over 75%  reported that this bell schedule would be a grave inconvenience, and create additional hardships for their family, forcing them to make a different choice about where to send their children. She received no response from her appeal.  Instead, when she called to inquire about if a decision had been made, she was told that we were keeping the Tier I bell schedule, the earliest arrival and dismissal time allotted.  We fear that our enrollment will be deeply impacted with a start time more than an hour and a half earlier than it is today.  We implore you to shift our bell schedule to Tier II 8:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m.
