Why this petition matters

Started by R. Simpson

WE Brats of the RCAF do not have a place in RCAF Archives, Museums or libraries- it seems. I wish to see if we can change that. Below is the letter to the Defense Department. We hope to meet them this coming July first week , and see what we can do to change that narrative. It would be grealy appreciated if you could take a few minutes to read this 'shortened version open letter' and sign the petition, if you agree. Thank you all ! Dave Simpson/ Vancouver

THE HONOURABLE Bill Blair Minister of Defence

Dear Sir,

I/We were the dependants of those Airforce personal that served during the Cold War in France and elsewhere.

Those that served are well documented in museums, libraries and on TV but their families are no where to be seen. There seems to be no RCAF records in print, film, or photo, that captures the stories of the families, Brats, the French, or Belgium friends of Canadians.

We seem to have been forgotten for the past 100 years of the RCAF and 100 years of film making.  We, the friends of RCAF and Brats are trying to change that narrative.

According to my correspondence with the RCAF Archives, and ‘Aviation and Space’ Museum, they have no records in print, photo, or film, about the RCAF families. As of this past year, the ‘Space and Aviation Museum’ had started to collect a few photos of RCAF families which have been supplied to them by myself or others at no cost.

They both state that they do not have the budget to buy films or photos from Brats

We would like to share these stories with our ‘Civilian brothers and sisters’. What I am suggesting, is that funds be made available to the Aviation and Space Museum, the RCAF archives and RCAF libraries to purchase what has been created in works of book, film, photos, and written stories, from those Brats who remain. Time is of some concern.

Would the Defence Department be interested in helping make our stories-our legacy, come alive to the Canadian population is the question we would like to put to them . End
