Why this petition matters

Started by Tae Addison

I am one of the many hardworking individuals who have experienced the pain of eviction. The feeling of losing everything you've worked so hard for, not knowing when a marshal will knock on your door, or where you'll go next is indescribable. After losing my job due to layoffs and having my hours cut, I found myself without rental assistance and nowhere to turn.

This is not just my story; it's the story of countless others who have been denied housing due to past credit mistakes. It's time we change this system that punishes those who are already struggling.

In America, nearly 1 in 3 adults has a credit score that can make obtaining housing difficult (Source: Federal Reserve). This means millions are potentially denied shelter because of past financial missteps. This isn't fair or just.

We propose a reform in the credit qualifications required for housing applications. Instead of outright denial based on credit history, properties could require higher deposits if needed - giving individuals a second chance while still protecting property owners' interests.

Everyone deserves shelter and everyone deserves a second chance. We all learn from our mistakes; let's create an environment where these lessons don't cost us our homes.

Please sign this petition and support changes in credit qualifications for housing applications - because no one should be left out in the cold due to their past financial struggles.
