Calling all of Starfleet! Star Trek: Lower Decks is in jeopardy and we need your help!

The Star Trek franchise has brought hope, inspiration, and a sense of wonder to generations of viewers, readers, and gamers.  With a host of shows, movies, books, games, and merchandise we have seen the evolution of Star Trek and the values of the United Federation of Planets evolve to help define the cutting edge of science fiction as well as human ethics in bold new ways.  

Sadly one of the newest and yet most refreshing additions to the franchise, Lower Decks, may be in danger.  

For the uninitiated Star Trek: Lower Decks offers a glimpse into the less glamorous, yet no less critical, operations aboard a Starfleet vessel.  The crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos, a California class starship, are tasked with the more day to day functions that support the more well known and influential ships of the fleet.  Though the ship and crew are smaller than the Galaxy class ships such as the Enterprise their resolve, spirit, and interpersonal relations are no less complex and certainly no less important.  

In an era of dazzling special effects seemingly designed to distract from a lack of story substance Lower Decks animated format blends the insane with the mundane and helps viewers immerse themselves with the story.  Better still, the characters come alive by embodying the same human insecurities of our post-modern era, but given the almost fantastic nature of the environment they become accessible and endearing.  

Too often studios and creators focus our attention on the largest names and most powerful characters and though those stories are important it is equally important to show that a fictional universe is more than the figure heads.  Lower Decks does this well while also poking fun at itself in a way that makes one feel like being dealt with honestly and truthfully while also being entertaining as heck!

Please support this petition and send a message that hopefully will not be lost in subspace.  Human stories (as well as Vulcan, Andorian, Klingon, and yes, even Ferengi) are still important and necessary.
