Why this petition matters

Dr. Karen Powell Sears is one of Denison University's most beloved and highly regarded Anthropology/Sociology and Global Health Studies professors. She has been denied tenure. Dr. Sears has been instrumental in engaging students in their educational journey and challenging them in the classroom for the last 30+ years (9 years at Denison University). The
diverse, scholarly perspective and instructional poise that Dr. Sears brings to her students in the classroom has been proven to be invaluable through her students' success and accomplishments.

Dr. Sears embodies the following commitments: Scholarship, Teaching, and Service. These are the core criterion for a tenured professor at Denison University.

Dr. Sears exceeds Denison's expectation of faculty as a teacher-scholar-advisor to many students and contributing both breadth and depth to her work in the classroom as well as her academic prowess and research that reaches beyond campus limits. Dr. Sears provides close interaction with her students, employs interactive learning, and teaches effectively using timely research to engage students across a broad range of backgrounds.
Because of her outstanding commitment to the academic and professional success of Denison students, Dr. Sears deserves to be
granted tenure.
