Char'Dae Nunes Graduation Photo

On February 8th, 2024, a young woman named Char'Dae Nunes tragically lost her life after boarding an Uber. She was only 21 years old and was simply trying to get home from work. Within just 15 minutes of entering the vehicle, something went horribly wrong and Char'Dae ended up decease on the expressway. She had been on a Facetime call with her cousin during the ride because she felt nervous - suddenly, the phone went blank and that was the last anyone heard from her.

This heart-wrenching incident is not isolated. It's part of a larger issue that needs immediate attention - safety in RideShare vehicles like Uber and Lyft. We propose mandatory installation of cameras inside all such vehicles to ensure both rider and driver safety. These videos should be saved for at least seven days so they can be reviewed if something goes wrong.

According to a report by CNN (2018), more than 100 Uber drivers have been accused of sexual assault or abuse over four years in the U.S alone. The presence of cameras could deter such incidents or provide crucial evidence when needed.

Moreover, this measure could also help decrease human trafficking rates which are alarmingly high worldwide; according to Polaris Project (2019), there were over 11,000 cases reported just in America.

By mandating cameras inside RideShare cars we can make these services safer for everyone involved – reducing instances of sexual assault, human trafficking, and other crimes while providing peace of mind for riders like Char'Dae who simply want a safe journey home.

Please sign this petition to urge lawmakers to make in-car cameras mandatory in all RideShare vehicles across our nation.
