Why this petition matters

Started by Glasgow EIS

This petition has been organised by Glasgow EIS who went into dispute with the employer, Glasgow City Council on Friday 15th March over proposed cuts to the education budget.

We are gravely concerned at the prospect of the debilitating education cuts to be found in Glasgow's 2024-2026 budget which will lead to:-

  • The loss of DYW co-ordinators and the MCR Pathways Programme.
  • Cuts of 172 teaching posts this year with around 450 teaching posts to be cut over the next 3 years.
  • Significant decrease in support for pupils especially in the ASN sector.
  • Cuts to primary school budgets used for essential resources.
  • Vastly increased teacher workload in an already overstretched service.
  • Young people's education suffering as staff are expected to do more with less.

The proposed cuts to this budget stands to leave education in Glasgow in a state of emergency and will cause damage for decades to come for the city's children and young people.  They deserve more, not less.

Please sign our petition to STOP cuts to education in Glasgow.
