Proposed massive highway expansion on the 52 would decimate

Sign the petition to urge our representatives to SANDAG to remove this proposed highway project from SANDAG’s new 2021 Regional Plan - San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria and SD County Supervisor Terra Lawsen-Remer
 
SANDAG, San Diego’s regional planning agency, is proposing:
  - 3 additional lanes on the 52 between I-5 and I-805
  - Huge new highway connectors that would connect the middle lanes on the 52 to the middle lanes on both the I-5 and I-805

This highway project would be disastrous for the park’s natural habitat and its wildlife. It would drastically impact the experience of park users, who enjoy its many trails. And it would degrade the water quality in San Clemente creek which flows through the park and into Mission Bay.
 
SANDAG will vote in December on whether to include this highway project in its new 2021 Regional Plan.

About Marian Bear Memorial Park
It is located in San Diego’s San Clemente Canyon on the south side of the 52, stretching from I-5 to I-805. The 467 acres of dedicated natural parkland include finger canyons and mesas on the south side and a network of trails for recreation. It is one of the oldest open space parks in the City of San Diego’s park system.
Marian Bear Park contains important habitat for native wildlife and plants. It is part of a network of protected urban open space that provide wildlife movement corridors, connecting to Rose Canyon in the west and MCAS Miramar in the east. In the 1990’s the City of San Diego committed to protect the park as habitat for native plants and animals.Speak up for our open space parks and spread the word to your family, friends and neighbors.
