Advocating For a Dog Run in Whitey Ford Field, Plus Neighborhood Dog Waste Stations
Why this petition matters
On NYC's iconic East River, the Western Queens neighborhood of Old Astoria is fast becoming one of NYC's most desirable neighborhoods, with an ethnic and economic diversity second to none. And one of our fastest-growing populations is our canine population.
The pandemic greatly accelerated dog ownership, and we need to expand our canine infrastructure.
The need is immediate: Over 5000 new apartments are in the pipeline in Hallets Peninsula, which will only increase the need for a dog-friendly environment.
To this end, we are advocating for a dog run in Whitey Ford Field, plus Dog Waste Stations and Dog Waste Composting throughout the neighborhood, both on residential streets and in our Parks.
Please sign our petition, and also please reach out at Feedback@oana-ny.org if you are interested in volunteering to maintain these new facilities.
Parks will not construct a dog run without a volunteer group committed to maintenance, and we'll need to keep waste stations properly maintained.
