While initially it was a fairly direct successor to the original Defense of the Ancients map on Warcraft 3, Heroes Of Newerth has evolved into so much more than that. Over the the last 12 years, it has cultivated a diverse community all over the world and supports a wide variety of game modes and play styles. Thousands of us continue to play this game every month, serving as a glue to bind the community together.

Unfortunately, on June 20th 2022, we will no longer be able to play it. We truly believe that it is a game worth preserving, worth sharing with others, and worth playing! 

While the development team has has lost the ability to continue to support and maintain the game, its community has experienced developers like ddt that are excited to take on the project and keep the game alive. In addition to the regular server maintenance required to keep a live product in place, he is committed to leading an open source community that will be able to tackle even the least glamorous issues that have that have created frustration since beta.
