Why this petition matters

Started by Gabrielle Munslow

I am writing this petition with a heavy heart, having lost my dear friend Tony Brightwell in the Shoreham Air show disaster. The tragedy that unfolded on that fateful day in 2015 is still fresh in our minds. A 1950s Hawker Hunter piloted by Andrew Hill burst into flames over the crowds, taking innocent lives and causing immeasurable pain to their families. Now, we are faced with the shocking news of Mr. Hill's attempt to return to flying.

The families of those killed have rightfully called this move an insult to the victims. We believe it is not only disrespectful but also poses potential risks for future air shows and public safety at large.

Andrew Hill was found not guilty of manslaughter by gross negligence but was held responsible for making serious errors which led to loss of control of his aircraft (source: BBC News). Given these circumstances, it seems inconceivable that he should be allowed near a cockpit again.

We appeal to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and all relevant bodies involved in granting flying licenses to consider our plea seriously. We urge them not only as bereaved friends and family members but also as concerned citizens who value public safety above all else.

Please sign this petition if you agree that Andrew Hill should never be granted a license to fly again - let us ensure such tragedies do not repeat themselves.
