The Sahitya Akademi is a national institution that annually awards genuine creators and writers of several Indian languages. However, the awarding process has been in turmoil for several years due to the jury being chosen based on relationships rather than merit. This has resulted in undeserving individuals receiving the award, leaving genuine writers speechless. This year, the Sahitya Akademi Urdu Award for Fiction was given to a junior woman writer, while other renowned senior women and men writers were nominated. Three jurors, two of whom are unfamiliar with the Urdu literary community, and none of whom have a direct connection with contemporary Urdu fiction. Most of the nominated books are the best works of senior Urdu writers who have already gained fame in the eyes of critics and readers. When asked by people on one of  Shri Chandra Bhan Khayal’s Facebook posts what distinguished performances of the jury members led him to be selected to give such a big verdict, he responded poorly to the questioners. After some time, Shri Khayal deleted his comments when many renowned writers started protesting. However, a screenshot of his comments was saved.
We respectfully request that the President, Secretary of the Central Sahitya Academy, and the Ministry of Culture release the convenor of the Sahitya Academy Urdu, Shri Chandra Bhan Khayal, from his responsibility and replace him with an honest and impartial person.  The entire Urdu literary community expects justice from you.
