Why this petition matters

On June 14th of 2020, William Marcus Wilson was in Statesboro, Georgia visiting with his girlfriend they went out late at night to get a bite from Taco Bell and were under attack by a group of white supremacists. They proceeded to threaten and throw racial slurs towards Marc, they even tried to run Marc and his girlfriend off the road. Horrified Marc Wilson defended himself and girlfriend life with a firearm he legally owned. Striking 17 year old Haley Hutcheson.

Cooperating with the law enforcement, he turned himself in to the Statesboro Police Department with one count of felony murder and a count of aggravated assault.

Despite the Statesboro Police Department's deceptive media releases and other allegations that this was random violence or perhaps ANTIFA-inspired, the investigation into what happened on Veterans Memorial Parkway is far from complete.
Every day brings new details about the activities of Mason Edward Glisson, 18, Luke Harry Conley, 18, and Ashton Robert Deloach, 18, who all played a huge part in the tragedy.

As the United States grapples with racial injustice, no component of #BlackLivesMatter is more at odds with white supremacy than when Black people defend their lives against hatred. Statesboro is at a fork in the road. It is a city led by its first Black Mayor, Jonathan McCollar, a longtime activist and administrator. Although it has a newly elected progressive city council, the power structure and the entire justice apparatus are white.

Is Stand Your Ground/Self-Defense of a Black Man's Life Protected Under Law? Given the lack of successful application of Stand Your Ground self-defense claims by Black people. The family has authorized an independent investigation, which is greatly aided by information submitted by members of the public. As a result, no one should hurry to a conclusion in this instance.
