Why this petition matters

Started by Daryl Brown

I asked the mental health charity Mind to include treatment-induced side effects in their research surveys as I have reported upon here and here. They said no. Mind conduct regular research surveys. This at one time included an annual one called ‘The Big Mental Health Survey’ but even that did not include questions about side effects in it. Sign this petition if you think that Mind should include side effects, especially permanent ones in their research surveys.

Side effects go unmonitored by mental health clinics. The mental health professionals working in mental health services also do not report side effects as I uncovered in my Freedom of Information requests.

People with (and without) mental health disabilities who are treated in mental health clinics develop a range of strange and uncomfortable, sometimes permanent, injuries that do lead to suicides. A lot of these harms and permanent injuries are not even listed on the packaging and people are routinely not or purposefully not informed, and are coerced or forced into taking them.

Antipsychotics are also abusively shelled out against children and adults with Autism disabilities. Nearly 20% of the population are prescribed antidepressants. The toxic effects of having multiple mental health medications together are not researched, and the long term effects of singular medication have not been either, yet both are routinely practised.

Some of the serious harm from mental health treatments include:

  • Akathisia
  • Mood swings, suicidal and homicidal behavior
  • Sexual Dysfunction
  • Dangerous and fast weight gain
  • Stomach disturbances
  • Burning Eyes - Dry Eye Conditions: Blepharitis and Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD)
  • Serious physically tormenting withdrawal addiction reactions, that include: brain zaps, extreme moods, extreme anxiety, hallucinations, psychosis, Persistent Genital Arousal Disorder, stomach disturbances and drug dependencies.

Some of the permanent Injuries from mental health treatments include:

  • Birth Defects
  • Miscarriages
  • Post-SSRI Sexual Dysfunction (PSSD)
  • Tardive Dyskinesia
  • Stomach Disturbances
  • Irreversible Impotence
  • Emotional Blunting (a.k.a Anhedonia)
  • Memory loss and disorientation from E.C.T
  • Early death by an average of 20 years
  • Diabetes
  • Thyroid Disease
  • Heart Disease
  • Kidney disease
  • Burning Eyes - Dry Eye Conditions: Blepharitis and Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD)

There is a general feeling/apathy that coercion and serious harm is acceptable against people with mental health disabilities. If large mental health charities like Mind, who are supposed to represent and protect the human rights of people with mental health disabilities, fail to do so then people will continue to be used as guinea pigs.

By signing this petition you can apply the necessary public pressure to ensure Mind upholds the human rights, protection and equality that people with mental health disabilities deserve. You can really make a difference.
