Columbia is at a crossroads. Our City Council will soon set our goal for our electric utility to attain 100% renewably generated power. They will have to decide if the target should be 2030, 2040 or 2050. Please lend your support for this message:

Whereas, burning fossil fuels is the primary cause of climate change, and

Whereas, climate change is a threat to this and all future generations, and

Whereas, the consensus of the scientific community is that we must dramatically reduce our carbon footprint this decade, and

Whereas, most of Columbia’s electricity is currently produced by burning coal or gas, which releases large quantities of greenhouse gases, as well as other climate and health-threatening pollutants, disproportionately impacting low income and people of color, and

Whereas, affordable, clean, renewable electricity is currently available and cost-competitive using solar and wind technology,

We the undersigned call upon Columbia’s City Council to embrace moving to 100% renewably generated electricity by 2030.
