As cases of sexual harassment and sexual assault have come to light, it is imperative that we look internally at the experiences of those in our community. In Frisco Independent School District ("FISD"), many students, predominantly feminine individuals, have experienced forms of sexual harassment, including catcalling, groping, and more. With these in mind, many students have reported an alarming lack of administrative interference pertaining to these incidents. Part of the reason certain students feel that it’s acceptable to treat others this way is the lack of education and prevention training that takes place in the learning environment. During Sex Education lessons in secondary schools, there were little to no mentions of consent and how it works nor any distribution of active sexual harassment prevention material, including lectures assemblies, or webinars. This leads to a concerning lack of knowledge in important areas and a more dangerous environment for others.

In FISD, it is vital to include sexual harassment prevention in order to create a safer environment for everyone. Training students to understand sexual harassment and assault will allow them to fully comprehend the severity of the issue and ensure its prevention.

With this, the role of administrators and staff of FISD is a key component in preventing sexual harassment and assault. As mentioned above, many of those who have experienced these instances have reported minimal administrative interference. The perpetrators have received little to no consequences and therefore, contribute to an unsafe environment for victims.
