Why this petition matters

I oppose the Hopkins/Wyke proposal of 200 new houses in the field above the Castle Cary heritage railway station.

I wish to protect the landscape around Castle Cary and Ansford.

This field is highly prominent in the landscape setting of the town, which is set in rolling countryside.

The peace and calm of the public footpath will forever be compromised by urban development on this site.

This field is integral to the stunning view across to the Mendips and Glastonbury Tor from Ansford Hill.

Rail travellers appreciate the glorious rural setting of our pretty Victorian train station.

I support South Somerset's planning refusal to build on this farmland due to the extreme harm it will do to the setting of the historic market town of Castle Cary.

I support Castle Cary Town Council and Care4Cary's opposition to the Appeal lodged by the Applicants Hopkins/Wyke

There is no identified local need for this huge housing estate.

The majority of these houses are unaffordable to local people.

I am already concerned by the heavy traffic on the A371 and worry that 200 new dwellings, and the necessary cars, will increase the risk of accident and pollution.

Castle Cary has more than fulfilled its share of new housing under the South Somerset Local Plan.

I am concerned that our local infrastructure including schools and medical facilities are already under severe pressure.

I wish to protect the character and local distinctiveness of the landscape setting of the town.

I wish to conserve the beauty of the countryside for future generations to enjoy.

Green open spaces are vital for our mental health and well-being.

Housing for housing need, not for greed!
