Update: Ovechkin is due back in Canada on February 17, 2024 to face off against the Habs in Montreal.

Lots of time for him to deny Ovi, who continues to support Putin, a visa to enter Canada.  

TELL TRUDEAU TO DENY OVECHKIN ENTRY TO CANADA BECAUSE HE ACTIVELY SUPPORTS PUTIN

There's still time for Prime Minister Trudeau to do the right thing and deny Alexander Ovechkin, a citizen of russia and active supporter of Vladimir Putin, a visa to enter Canada.

Ovechkin continues to support Putin and his genocidal war of terror on the sovereign nation of Ukraine. There are numerous examples of russia targeting civilian populations and infrastructure; using rape and torture of children, elderly and civilians as tools of war. 

All the while, Ovechkin continues to overtly support Russia and Putin as leader.

In 2017, he started an advocacy group (think superPAC), called #PutinTeam - made up of professional sports figures who wanted to ensure Putin remained president (https://www.instagram.com/p/Ba_72RJBE8h/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y%3D

Ovechkin continues to have photos of Putin on his social media accounts and he returned to Russia in the off-season, unlike other Russian players who did not, and who do not celebrate Putin on public platforms. 

On December 28, 2022, the Ukrainian Canadian Congress wrote to the Prime Minister to appeal to him to deny Ovechkin a visa. Canada is under no obligation to allow him entry to Canada and refusing entry would send a strong signal that actions and words matter.
