Citing The colt railway website: “an analysis to understand its economic impact on Boone County and Missouri. COLT’s five-year direct impact accounts for $670 million in total sales, 243 jobs and $2.4 million in tax revenue in the City of Columbia and Boone County.”
I am a resident of Columbia, Missouri without a car. Like many others in our community, the lack of transportation options is a significant challenge. We believe that establishing intercity rail service in our city would greatly enhance mobility and reduce reliance on private vehicles.
Columbia is home to over 120,000 residents and hosts thousands more students at the University of Missouri. Despite this large population, we lack an efficient transportation system that can cater to everyone's needs. A intercity rail service would not only provide an affordable and convenient mode of transport for people like me who do not own cars but also contribute to reducing traffic congestion and carbon emissions.
According to the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), public transportation in urban areas like ours reduces CO2 emissions by 37 million metric tons annually. By implementing intercity rail service here in Columbia, we could be part of this positive change towards sustainability.
We urge local government officials and transit authorities to consider our plea seriously. Establishing intercity rail service will improve lives by providing accessible transport for all residents while contributing positively towards environmental conservation efforts.
Please sign this petition if you support the establishment of intercity rail service in Columbia, MO - because everyone deserves reliable transportation options.
