Why this petition matters

Dear Honourable Members of Parliament and Prime minister ,

Stop-Foreign partners told leave the country when their visa comes up renewal

People across the UK could see foreign partners told to leave the country the next time their visa comes up for renewal if their household does not earn £38,700, No 10 has said.

NEW immigration plans intended to cut the number of migrants by 300,000 a year could risk splitting up families already living in the UK.

We, the undersigned, write to you with deep concern and urgent appeal regarding the recent changes in the UK's immigration policy. Under the new rules, foreign partners are being compelled to leave the country when their visas come up for renewal. This action has caused widespread distress, separating families and disrupting lives, and we believe it undermines the core values of inclusivity, fairness, and respect for human rights the United Kingdom stands for.

The sudden enforcement of such stringent rules without adequate notice has left many foreign partners and their families in a state of turmoil and uncertainty. Such individuals have built lives, careers, and families in the UK, contributing to the society and economy in significant ways. These new regulations threaten to upend their lives, creating undue hardship and potentially causing irreparable damage to the social fabric of our communities.

Furthermore, this policy modification has broad implications for the UK's image internationally. As a nation known for its commitment to human rights and diversity, such an action can be seen as regressive and contradictory to these principles. It might also cause strain in international relations with countries whose citizens are affected, and deter skilled professionals from considering the UK as a desirable place to live and work.

We, therefore, ask that this policy be reviewed and reconsidered with immediate effect. We propose that foreign partners who have already established their lives in the UK be given a grace period to adjust to these changes, or better yet, be grandfathered into the previous policy given their established ties to the country.

We also urge the implementation of a more compassionate and comprehensive immigration policy that takes into account the human impact of such regulations. We believe that immigration policy should not just be about maintaining borders and controlling population numbers, but also about respecting human dignity, preserving families, and promoting cultural exchange.

The United Kingdom has a proud history of openness, diversity, and respect for human rights. We urge you to uphold these values by reconsidering this new immigration policy and working towards a solution that respects the rights of foreign partners who have made the UK their home. It is through these actions that the UK can demonstrate its commitment to being a truly global and inclusive nation.
