As a resident of Cincinnati, I have seen firsthand the transformative power of Red Bike and the close to 100,000 yearly bike rides the program provides. Our city is just beginning its journey to becoming a place where people can bike safely, and Red Bike has been a pivotal part of this initiative. Removing it would erase years of progress and severely limit residents and visitors from getting around in an accessible and environmentally friendly way.

Red Bike is more than just a bikeshare system; it's an affordable, healthy, and accessible form of transportation that allows people to commute, travel, exercise, and have fun in both Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. It plays an essential role in our efforts to make Cincinnati a bike-friendly city.

However, the existence of this crucial service is under threat. Without immediate action from our community leaders to secure funding for Red Bike's operations, we risk losing this valuable asset that contributes significantly to our urban mobility landscape.

According to the League of American Bicyclists (LAB), cities with comprehensive bikeshare systems like ours are more likely to see improvements in public health outcomes due to increased physical activity levels among residents (LAB 2018). Additionally, these cities often experience reductions in traffic congestion as more citizens opt for cycling over driving—something that could greatly benefit our growing metropolis.

We urge local authorities not only consider these benefits but also recognize how integral Red Bike has become for many Cincinnatians' daily lives. We call on them not only save Red Bike from shutting down but also invest further into making Cincinnati even more bike-friendly.
