Why this petition matters

Started by Mathilda Blunt

In recent years, there has been a significant rise in the number of drink and needle spiking incidents across UK universities. According to the Crime Survey for England and Wales, there were an estimated 8,670 drink spiking incidents reported between 2017-2018 (Office for National Statistics). This is a serious issue that poses a threat to the safety and well-being of our female university students in East London.

We are calling on universities in East London to implement comprehensive spiking prevention measures and post-spiking support for victims through a support pack. This could include educational programs about the dangers of drink spiking and distribution of anti-spiking devices such as lids or coasters designed to detect drugs in drinks.

In addition to prevention measures, we also urge these institutions to provide post-spiking support services. This could involve counselling services specifically tailored towards victims of drink spiking or partnerships with local hospitals for immediate medical assistance.

The safety of our students should be paramount. By implementing these measures, we can help protect our female university students from this horrific crime. Please sign this petition if you believe all female university students in East London deserve access to effective spiking prevention methods and post-spiking support services.
