Why this petition matters

Air travel should be comfortable and accessible for everyone, regardless of size. As non-plus-size travelers, my partner and I believe that it is fair for them to pay for the additional space they occupy on an airplane. We have experienced discomfort and inconvenience on flights due to their size, and we believe that implementing a policy where plus-size passengers pay for additional seats is a reasonable solution.

Being forced to occupy only one seat can result in discomfort for both plus-size passengers and neighboring passengers. It can also lead to misunderstandings, discrimination, and mistreatment from fellow passengers. We believe that by requiring plus-size passengers to pay for additional seats, airlines can ensure that all passengers have enough space to travel comfortably, without any inconvenience or discomfort.

We propose the following policies for plus-size passengers:

Payment for additional seats: Plus-size passengers should be required to pay for additional seats to accommodate their needs and ensure their comfort during the flight. The number of additional seats should depend on the size of the passenger and the space they require.

Transparency in booking: Airlines should clearly communicate the policy of paying for additional seats during the booking process, so that plus-size passengers are aware of the requirement and can plan accordingly. If they lied about their size, their tickets should be cancelled immediately at boarding.

Flexibility in seating: Airlines should provide flexibility in seating arrangements for plus-size passengers who have paid for additional seats, allowing them to choose seats that can accommodate their needs and ensure their comfort during the flight.

Refund policy: Airlines should have a clear refund policy in place for plus-size passengers who purchase additional seats but later find that they do not need them. This should be a straightforward process that can be accessed online or through customer service.

Employee training: Airlines must train their employees to handle the implementation of the policy with sensitivity and respect, and to provide appropriate customer service to plus-size passengers who have paid for additional seats.

We believe that by implementing a policy where plus-size passengers pay for additional seats, airlines can ensure that all passengers have a comfortable and enjoyable travel experience. This policy will also promote fairness, transparency, and inclusivity in air travel, and reduce misunderstandings, discrimination, and mistreatment of plus-size passengers as they have paid for occupied space.
Join us in demanding that airlines implement this policy to create a more equitable and accommodating environment for all passengers.
