Why this petition matters

Started by Save Rose Hill

Stop Doncaster Council selling Rose Hill, a beautiful re-wilded biodiverse green space covered in trees, to a housebuilder and allowing it to be developed.

This petition asks Doncaster Council to enforce its own green policies and stop its plans to sell Rose Hill and allow a housebuilder to build on this green space.

The plans for Rose Hill will result in:

  • Loss of a biodiverse open green space surrounded by hedgerows and covered in trees which supports a wide variety of plants, insects, birds and animals.
  • Loss of wildlife habitat, including impact on protected species
  • Development directly next to a Local Wildlife Site, which will result in degradation of that site.
  • Loss of a site on a designated wildlife corridor across Doncaster.
  • The felling of many semi-mature and mature trees.
  • Loss of a site that according to Doncaster Council's own survey, has "high potential for the survival of significant archaeological remains associated with Roman settlement, agriculture and pottery production" and is part of an area with "regional archaeological significance".
  • Loss of a green open space widely used by the local community for recreation (There are, for example, 3 bridle paths across the site).
  • Creation of Doncaster's largest cul-de-sac, creating significant access and traffic problems for existing (and future) residents, and additional traffic on nearby Bawtry Road

Doncaster Council say they have declared a Climate Emergency, that we all need to "act now" and everyone needs to put "the environment at the forefront of our thinking". They claim their planning policy "protects the borough's green spaces and supports Doncaster as a place where wildlife flourishes and wildlife can move easily through a network of well-connected green infrastructure", and that there is a "presumption against development that will resuit in the loss of trees".

And yet they are ignoring all these principles, policies and statements by selling Rose Hill to a housebuilder for profit.

Please help protect Rose Hill and sign and share this petition. Thank you.
