Thanet Councillor Yates is proposing a 90-day restriction on short term lets across Thanet.

We feel that this reckless act will have a devastating effect on Thanet's economy and local business's which are supported by its tourism trade.

If this is allowed to happen it is feared that Thanet will fall back to the dark days of the 1990s and the hard work of the local community will be lost.

The people of Thanet must realise that the short-let market employs so many local people. This motion will have a devastating effect on jobs such as cleaners, laundry services, maintenance workers, plumbers, electricians, management companies, restaurants, gardeners and shops, to name but a few.

At present Thanet enjoys a 70% - 80% occupancy rate and Cllr Yates is proposing to slash this to 25%! This will leave people who work in the industry 275 days without work which cannot be viable and these jobs will most certainly diminish.

Please come together to stop this happening. People use these short-let properties for not just holidays but, for work, as short accommodation between moving house or if they are enduring an insurance claim. This shows that the short-let properties are important and needed by the community as well as being there as a holiday rental. They must be available 365 days per year, or they will all just disappear.
