Earlier this year, New Jersey passed the recreational use of cannabis. However according to the NJ state law, it is still illegal to grow cannabis for yourself. If caught with cannabis, a person is no longer arrested or charged with any criminal offense, but if you have live cannabis plants, you can go to jail for 5 - 20 years. We need to correct this and put a smart bill in place, Bill S3582 proposed by Senator Vin Gopal. 

The ability to grow cannabis at home is important, as many people cannot afford to buy cannabis for personal use but more importantly medical use. Vin Gopal's bill will allow people 21 years of age or older to grow 6 plants for personal use or 10 plants for medical use (12 total per household). This will allow people a way to gain access to cannabis who otherwise could not afford it. 

When you look at the issue at hand, it is like saying you can drink beer but you can't try to brew your own. Help New Jersey pass this bill by supporting this petition, sharing this with your friends and family, and urge our senators and governor to push this bill through.
