Il 4 maggio le forze dell'ordine di Mosca perquisiscono l'appartamento della madre e della nonna di Zhenya Berkovich (38), regista teatrale, poetessa, attivista per i diritti umani e femminista.  Entrambe le donne sono note scrittrici e attiviste per i diritti umani. Il 5 maggio Zhenya viene arrestata con l'accusa di "giustificazione del terrorismo" per la messa in scena del testo "Finist, il chiaro falco", scritto da Svetlana Petriychuck (43), anch'essa arrestata. Il testo, che parla di donne russe che hanno sposato in cerimonie virtuali seguaci dell'Islam radicale e sono andate, o hanno provato ad andare,  in Siria, per unirsi alla lotta con i loro mariti, conterrebbe, secondo l'accusa, elementi dell'ideologia dell'Isis e, simultaneamente, immagini di denigrazione della donna. "Finist, il chiaro falco" , basato sulle trascrizioni delle sentenze e degli interrogatori alle donne successivamente perseguitate e arrestate in Russia, ha vinto premi e riconoscimenti (un premio della Theatre Critics Association e due National Theatre Awards Golden Mask per migliori costumi e migliore drammaturgia) e, per la regista e per l'autrice, si pone come obiettivo la piena denuncia di qualsiasi totalitarismo. "Spero che chiunque guardi questo spettacolo", afferma Berckovich, "qualunque siano le circostanze, abbia lo 0,5 % in meno di probabilità di unirsi a un culto totalitario". Oggi, Zhenya e Svetlana rischiano fino a 7 anni di pena. Ciò che colpisce di questa triste vicenda è che, a differenza di altri arresti, che hanno sempre trovato origine in azioni, a detta dell'accusa, di dissidenza, come nei casi di "alto tradimento", "spionaggio" ,  "diffusione di false informazioni sull'operazione militare speciale" o "teppismo" (come accadde con il movimento delle Pussy Riot), in questo caso vengono "incriminati" il contenuto di un'opera teatrale e la sua messa in scena. 

Zhenya, nello specifico, è stata una tra i pochi artisti ed artiste rimasti a Mosca in tempo di guerra. Ha continuato a scrivere sulla sua pagina social esprimendo i suoi pensieri, la stessa pagina social che oggi non esiste più, per attacchi di violenza nei suoi confronti, probabilmente pilotati. Considerata una delle migliori allieve del regista russo Kirill Serebrennikov, che in questa circostanza ha scritto per lei parole di sostegno commoventi, sensibile sin dall'inizio della sua carriera a temi etici legati ai diritti umani, si ritrova, oggi, dietro le sbarre per un'ingiustizia clamorosa. 

In occasione del processo a Zhenya e Svetlana, che si terrà nel mese di settembre, l'Associazione di categoria  di registe e registi teatrali in Italia R.A.C. (regist_ a confronto), si oppone in assoluto alla repressione di artisti e artiste che hanno il dovere e il diritto di raccontare storie e vicende del loro presente senza il rischio di essere censurati e arrestati per le proprie opere. 

L'arte di Zhenya e Svetlana non può essere colpevole di alcuna accusa! 

Pertanto, R.A.C. invita artisti e cittadini a difendere i diritti dell'arte in qualsiasi circostanza politica, attraverso una raccolta firme che possa non solo mostrare solidarietà alle due artiste, ma che possa finalmente ricordare a chi governa che abbiamo una voce e che possiamo e dobbiamo intervenire per cambiare, concretamente, lo stato delle cose. 

In diversi Paesi sono partite mobilitazioni per Zhenya e Svetlana, è tempo di allinearsi a chi sin da subito ha denunciato lo scandalo di queste accuse.

Ricordiamo, infine, che ad aspettare Zhenya a casa, ci sono due bambine adottate, di cui una minorenne, con difficoltà psichiche.

Fare aggiornamenti sul processo di Evgenia e Svetlana è molto difficile, la situazione è delicata, i capi d’accusa sono molto seri ma le prove ad oggi sono praticamente inesistenti e il procuratore non ha dimostrato interesse a concludere questo caso in breve tempo.
Abbiamo notato questa tendenza: ogni due mesi circa viene fissata un'udienza per il prolungamento della detenzione preventiva, quando parliamo di detenzione preventiva intendiamo che le ragazze sono ancora in attesa di processo ma considerate pericolose o tendenti alla fuga, quindi il giudice ha disposto la detenzione in carcere . Quando ci sarà il processo? Purtroppo i tempi si possono allungare anche di anni, e più ci saranno sentenze di prolungamento della detenzione,  meno ci sarà speranza di fare uscire le ragazze sane e salve. Per questo l'Associazione di categoria  di registe e registi teatrali in Italia R.A.C. (regist_ a confronto), si oppone in assoluto alla repressione di artisti e artiste che hanno il dovere e il diritto di raccontare storie e vicende del loro presente senza il rischio di essere censurati e arrestati per le proprie opere.

On May 4, the Moscow police forces searched the apartment of the mother and grandmother of Zhenya Berkovich (38), theater director, poet, human rights activist and feminist. Both women are well-known writers and human rights activists. On May 5, Zhenya was arrested on charges of "justification of terrorism" for staging the text "Finist, the clear hawk", written by Svetlana Petriychuck (43), who was also arrested. The text, which talks about Russian women who married radical Islamists in virtual ceremonies and went, or tried to go, to Syria to join the fight with their husbands, contains elements of the ideology of Isis and, simultaneously, images of denigration of women. What is striking about this sad story is that, unlike other arrests, which have always found their origin in actions, according to the prosecution, of dissidence as in cases of "high treason", "espionage", "dissemination of false information on the "special military operation" or "hooliganism" (as happens with the Pussy Riot movement), in this case the content of a play and its staging are "indicted". Zhenya, specifically, was one of the few male and female artists who remained in wartime Moscow. He continued to write on his members page expressing his thoughts, the same social page that no longer exists today due to attacks of violence against him, probably piloted.

Considered one of the best pupils of the Russian director Kirill Serebrennikov, who on this occasion wrote moving words of support for her, sensitive since the beginning of her career to ethical issues related to human rights, today she finds herself behind bars for a blatant injustice. On the occasion of the trial of Zhenya and Svetlana, which will be held in September, the trade association of theater directors in Italy R.A.C. (comparison director), absolutely opposes the repression of male and female artists who have the duty and right to tell stories and events of their present without the risk of being censored and arrested for their works. The art of Zhenya and Svetlana cannot be guilty of any charges!

Therefore, R.A.C. invites artists and citizens to defend the rights of art in any political circumstance, through a collection of signatures that can not only show solidarity with the two artists, but that can finally remind those who govern that we have a voice and that we can and must intervene to change concretely the state of things. In several countries, mobilizations have started for Zhenya and Svetlana, it's time to align with those who immediately denounced the scandal of these accusations. Making updates on Evgenia and Svetlana's trial is very difficult, the situation is delicate, the charges are very serious but the evidence to date is practically non-existent and the prosecutor has shown no interest in concluding this case in a short time.
We have noticed this trend: approximately every two months a hearing is scheduled for the extension of preventive detention, when we talk about preventive detention we mean that the girls are still awaiting trial but considered dangerous or tending to escape, so the judge has ordered the detention in prison. When will the trial take place? Unfortunately, times can extend for years, and the more sentences there are to extend detention, the less hope there will be of getting the girls out safely. For this reason the trade association of directors and theater directors in Italy R.A.C., absolutely opposes the repression of artists who have the duty and right to tell stories and events of their present without the risk of being censored and arrested for their works.
