Stop BLM Wild Horse Round Ups To Ensure Safety Of These Animals
Why this petition matters
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has been conducting wild horse roundups in Colorado, leading to significant distress and potential harm for these beautiful creatures. These roundups often result in the displacement of horses from their natural habitats, disrupting their social structures and causing undue stress. According to the American Wild Horse Campaign, over 7,000 wild horses were rounded up in 2020 alone. We believe that these practices are unnecessary and detrimental to the wellbeing of our wild horse populations.
In Canon City 119 wild horses died in 10 days. This happened because they brought in new horses that weren’t properly vaccinated and spread a flu to many horses in the holding pen.
Even after these animals are adopted out into happy living homes they will forever have the trama they endured from the round ups, it never goes away
While it is illegal to send wild horses to kill pens or slaughter houses that’s where many of the end up.
Hundreds die before the round up has even ended horses die from the exhaustion and heat of it all, this happens especially with the foals. Many will then try to jump out of the pens they are ran into and almost always breaking legs and dyeing. And if that’s not enough foals can be trampled in the crowded trailers.
Instead of roundups, we propose that BLM adopt humane fertility control methods which have been proven effective by organizations such as the Science and Conservation Center. This would allow us to manage wild horse populations without causing them harm or distress.
We urge you to consider this issue from a perspective of compassion and respect for our nation's wildlife. By signing this petition, you are taking a stand against harmful roundup practices and advocating for the protection of Colorado's wild horses. Please sign this petition today!
