Why this petition matters

Vermont State Colleges have announced their plan to CLOSE ALL OF THEIR LIBRARIES. This would include Vermont Tech Hartness libraries in Randolph and Williston, the Castleton University library, Johnston State College library, and Lyndon State college library. This would not only put several people, who have worked for the Vermont state college system for years out of jobs, but also affect the student's ability to access resources, and have a space for their studies. Closing all the libraries, would undoubtedly affect the reputation of these institutions, and lead to losing academic merit. A library is essential to all universities and colleges. This would not only affect the individual colleges and their students, but the whole Vermont education system.

Instead of closing down resources for students, maybe stop overpaying presidents and executives. They are not closing the libraries out of neccessity, they are choosing to not prioritize the prosperity of their own students.

In addition, Michelle Whalen, a staff member at Hartness Library was wrongfully terminiated abruptly last week. In a time where several people are already in fear of losing their jobs, Michelle's termination was profoundly miguided and uncalled for. The students of Vermont Tech want Michelle rehired.

Please sign this petition to save the libraries and Michelle's position.
