Why this petition matters

WHO: Here at the RedLoctician Academy, we need your help! Our school trains Locticians (dreadlock hairstylist). Our school has graduated and helped to open hundreds of successful Locticians businesses in  a 13 year period.

WHAT: Our problem is that we have a valid training that actually helps open businesses. We have a reputable training that many who are cosmetology school owners and teachers use but because of cosmetology laws, we don’t have access to the same funding or resources as cosmetology schools. Cosmetology schools do not train hair stylist to be ready to work in urban salons who have adapted more to our natural styles .
This is a big problem for the natural hair & dreadlock community. Black women and men are experiencing  preventable alopecia. Salons close  down because they can’t find licenses professional who can do the WORK. They have a license to do chemicals but not a know how to execute natural hair to professional standards. And this loophole is creating more narratives that just don’t work for natural hair . We’ve got a million products but not healthy hair.

WHY: If we could provide this training with government programs in place it would mean real on-the-job training and new business opportunities for employees and small business owners in urban areas. It would mean that the dreadlock community would be safe to trust Locticians are professionals just like any other hair type can when they go in the salon.

We need immediate action now because as trends show natural hair and locs are a way of life now ! No longer will our people be forced to straighten our hair. Cosmetology schools are failing urban hairstylist, failing the urban consumer . This has created a downtrend of hairstylist who don’t see the value in hair licenses. And a consumer who is forced to do their own research to find professionals that consumer affairs in their state should be providing .
