Introduce an Act of Parliament supporting ADHD adults and children (ADHD Act)
Why this petition matters
Introduce an Act of Parliament supporting ADHD adults and children (ADHD Act) 2020.
Like the Autism Act 2009, this will put a DUTY on the government to regularly prepare and publish an ADHD strategy which sets out the strategy for meeting the needs of children and adults in England with ADHD by improving the provision of relevant services by local authorities, National Health Service (NHS) bodies and foundation trusts.
The creation and implementation of an ADHD ACT 2020 calls for the Secretary of state to produce a broad strategy for ADHD adults and children which is kept under regular review and a duty to produce statutory guidance to ensure implementation.
This could include the provision of relevant services for the purpose of diagnosing attention deficit hyperactivity disorders in adults;
The identification of adults with ADHD along with scientific research and development of the condition; especially in the case of diagnosing females.
The assessment of the needs of adults with ADHD for relevant services;
Planning in relation to the provision of relevant services with ADHD as they move from being children to adults;
Other planning in relation to the provision of relevant ADHD services.
The training of staff who provide relevant services to both children and adults with such conditions;
Specialised accredited ADHD training for and not limited to; NHS staff, school teachers, employers and the wider community
Local arrangements for leadership in relation to the provision of relevant services to both children and adults with ADHD.
The Secretary of State must also consult local authorities and NHS bodies when issuing guidance or when revising it in such a way which would result in a substantial change to the guidance.
Implementation of action to reduce incorrect and hurtful stigma around ADHD including via media.
Meet the demands for ADHD Diagnosis waiting lists and after care support including in school and work environments.
Work with the criminal justice sector to educated and help reduce offending rates by meeting the needs of diagnosis and after care support. Supporting them in managing their condition.
GP knowledge of ADHD to include the symptoms and signs in girls and women as well as how it presents differently from child hood to adult hood.
Deliver guidance and publish understanding on how ADHD symptoms change along with rising and falling hormone levels during menstrual cycle.
