Why this petition matters

Started by Opal Reserve

The Glengarry/Grawin Opal Fields, Narran Lake National Park and surrounding land have seen devastation from a bushfire, named the Hudson Fire, since the 12th of November 2023.

The fire has burnt out over 22,000ha of land, and destroyed homes and machinery.

Crews from all over the state were deployed to help contain the bushfire, and one of those crews came from Diamond Beach on the Mid Coast.

In that strike team was Captain Leo Fransen, a life member of the Brigade since 2010.

In Capt. Leo's attempts to protect the community from the bushfire he tragically lost his life.

We share our deepest sympathies with his family, friends, crew members, and his local community with this massive loss.

We would like to thank Capt. Leo for his brave service to the RFS and to the community by commemorating him.

We propose that the 'Grawin Rd' be renamed 'Capt. Leo Fransen Way' by Walgett Shire Council.

Please sign if you wish to pay tribute to this courageous and dedicated man.

We will present this to Walgett Shire Council once we have reached 1000+ signatures.
