Why this petition matters

Started by Penelope Milne

The straw bale house - a unique zero waste sustainable project at the corner of Arroyo and Canyon Acres in Laguna Beach - is currently under threat of demolition. This isn't just a building - it's a symbol of hope and sustainability for our community, constructed by hand with love and dedication by Kris Spitaleri assited by young volunteers from all over.

One such volunteer is Kate from Atlanta. After finishing her first year at University, she sought to contribute to something meaningful during the stay-at-home order. She found that purpose in helping build this straw bale house. For her and many others like her, this project has become more than just construction work; it's become a beacon of environmental consciousness and community spirit.

Straw bale houses are not only eco-friendly but also energy-efficient due to their high insulation properties. They can reduce heating and cooling costs by up to 75% compared to conventional homes (Source: Environmental Building News). Furthermore, they utilize agricultural waste products – making them an excellent example of circular economy principles in action.

The destruction of this house would not only be a loss for our community but also for the environment as we strive towards more sustainable living practices. We urge you to join us in protecting this unique zero-waste project from being bulldozed.

Please sign this petition today and help us save the straw bale house!
