Speech-language pathologists are burdened by many barriers to career entry and advancement, including:

• Limited spaces in grad school programs = highly competitive application process
• Limited availability for hands-on internship training, particularly during COVID-19
• Burden of requirement of state license AND national credential in order to apply to some jobs, bill some insurance companies, and supervise CFY students
• Extreme lack of diversity worsened by financial barriers to entry into the field and decreasing wages with CMS cuts

When for-profit businesses come in and create another barrier to entry and advancement, this is not ok. Especially when these businesses create certification programs that are unaccredited, unregulated, hidden from public view, and led by people who use litigious threats to silence any and all discussion around this important issue.

We as SLPs need to stand up together and say NO! to additional unregulated, unaccredited credentials that threaten our credibility and employability. 

YES to continuing education programs that advance our knowledge and help us provide better care for our patients.

NO to CE companies creating unaccredited, unregulated SLP certifications that create additional financial barriers to career entry and advancement.

Use your voice to stand up and say NO to certifications that offer unregulated credentials. Let's stand together to protect all SLPs now and in the future from needing to spend thousands of dollars on top of our degrees and national credential to be seen as worthy candidates and valuable therapists.
