Why this petition matters

Started by Nancy Piety

The City of High Springs is working to pass Ordinance 2023-02.  Stand with us in opposition to this unjust annexation of your land.

Ordinance 2023-02 would allow for the establishment of Municipal Utility District (MUD), outside of city limits, running down County Road 236 towards I-75.  Anyone in this corridor, commercial or residential, would be required to connect to city water and sewer.  This connection would be at your personal expense.  Your wells will be disconnected, septic systems disconnected and rendered unusable.  Costs to connect are not currently estimated by the City, however are expected to be upward of $5000 per residence.  This is all in an effort to bring commercial development to the I-75 interchange.  They are putting their desire for commercial development over your property sovereignty.

The time to act is now.  They have already passed this ordinance on a first reading.  A second reading is required by the rules of the commission.  The second read is expected to be at the March 23rd Commission meeting.  Without your support, this ordinance will be passed and you will be forced to comply.  Since these residents are outside of the City limits, you have no say in your representation and will have no say in the running of the district.
