Despite the governments commitment to action on climate change, and their stated desire to help the public with rising heating costs, the Energy Performance certification system awards more points to landlords if they install expensive-to-use heating systems than it does to insulation that will help retain heat, resulting in tenants living in cold homes, and paying a fortune to heat them - forcing them into fuel poverty. 

We call on the government and Building Research Establishment to urgently make the required changes to the Energy Performance Certificate system  to ensure that landlords insulate first before adding additional heating systems to keep tenants warmer and to help them save money on energy costs to avoid fuel poverty.

The deadline for the decision on how to change the EPC system has been extended to 9th November 2022. ACT NOW and sign our petition so that we can press the government and the Building Research Establishment to put the system right in the interests of tenants, landlords and the planet.
