Pour la reconnaissance de la maternité des collages contre les féminicides : propriété intellectuelle de Marguerite Stern. [ENGLISH VERSION BELOW]

En février 2019 à Marseille, Marguerite Stern peint et colle seule. 
Une lettre noire peinte par feuille A4 blanche, collée au moyen d’une brosse à encoller et d’une colle à papier peint sur un mur, dans l’espace public, formant un message: « Depuis que j’ai 13 ans des hommes commentent mon apparence physique dans la rue ». Un mois plus tard, elle colle pour la première fois contre les féminicides, en mémoire de Julie Douib, assassinée par son ex-compagnon. 

Après six mois passés à coller en solitaire dans les rues de Marseille, Marguerite organise à Paris, le 30 août 2019, une rencontre dans le squat dans lequel elle vit. Elle commence alors la transmission de cette technique militante en formant des centaines de femmes féministes sous l’objectif de la photographe Pauline Makoveitchoux qui a archivé et documenté la naissance du mouvement des collages contre les féminicides et continue d’en suivre l’évolution, des peintures aux collages, depuis maintenant deux ans.

Le thème moteur de ses collages est la dénonciation des féminicides et des violences conjugales. Dès sa création, ce mouvement aux messages engagés prend une grande ampleur en île-de-France, en province, en Belgique, au Portugal, en Italie et bien d'autres pays, où des femmes se regroupent pour coller les noms des femmes assassinées par leur conjoint ou ex-conjoint dans le but de leur rendre femmage (féminisation du mot hommage) tout en dénonçant l’inaction des pouvoirs publics face aux violences systémiques envers les femmes.

Marguerite a alors eu l’initiative de créer une page sur le réseau social Instagram intitulée « Collages Féminicides Paris » sur laquelle elle publiait les photos desdits collages. Elle en a ensuite donné l’accès administrateur à deux femmes qui, aujourd'hui, gestionnaires de la page, annoncent la sortie d’un livre qui prétend retracer l’histoire du mouvement des collages.

Nous constatons une réécriture mensongère et erronée de la genèse du mouvement, un faisceau d’indices constitutif d’un vol de propriété intellectuelle ;

• Marguerite est citée comme ayant participé à la création alors qu’elle en est LA créatrice
• L’existence de propos diffamatoires et d’un harcèlement constant à son encontre (tweets transphobes)
• Les inexactitudes et incohérences de la chronologie du mouvement telle qu’indiquée dans le livre
• La dénaturation de l’essence même du mouvement avec la présence au sein de la publication de photos de collages faisant l’apologie de la prostitution
• La retranscription erronée de son premier collage, qui fait preuve d'un manquement grave à la déontologie journalistique en France, à savoir la « vérité, la rigueur et l'exactitude, l'intégrité, l'équité et l'imputabilité »

En ce sens, la maison d’édition Éditions DENOËL du groupe Gallimard ainsi que les gestionnaires de la page Instagram “Collages Féminicides Paris” ont été appelées sur les réseaux sociaux, avant la parution du livre annoncée pour le 28 octobre 2021, à corriger les passages inexacts afin que la filiation artistique du mouvement soit rétablie. Ces demandes ont été refusées.

Cette pétition a pour vocation d’acter la négligence de la maison d'édition dans le cadre de sa coresponsabilité avec l’auteur en cas de diffamation et ainsi de réclamer :

1. Le retrait des livres de la vente tant qu’ils n’auront pas été rectifiés de sorte à ne pas déposséder Marguerite Stern de son oeuvre et des droits de propriété intellectuelle qui y sont attachés 
2. L’actualisation des écrits afin que soient corrigées les inexactitudes et imprécisions sur l'histoire générale des collages 
3. La citation expresse des travaux de la photographe Pauline Makoveitchoux et ce dès la naissance de la transmission de cette technique militante initiée et réalisée par Marguerite Stern

Fighting against the erasure of women's achievements from history : restore the maternity of the « Collages Féminicides » movement to Marguerite Stern.

In February 2019, Marguerite Stern took to the streets of Marseille, to paint and glue alone. A single black letter painted on A4 sheets of paper, using a brush and wallpaper glue, formed the message « Ever since I'm 13 years old, men have been commenting on my physical appearance in the streets ». One month later, Marguerite glued her first slogan on the city’s walls denouncing femicide, in memory of Julie Douib, murdered by her former partner.

After six months of gluing alone in Marseille, Marguerite organised a meeting in the squat where she lived in Paris. August 30th, 2019  marked the date that Marguerite began passing along this form of activism by training hundreds of feminists. Pauline Makoveitchoux documented the birth of the collages contre les féminicides (posters against femicide) movement through her camera lens, and she continues to follow the movement’s evolution to this day.

Reporting femicides and domestic violence is the driving theme behind the collages movement. This movement of political messages gained momentum and spread rapidly across the country. Then collages groups started forming in Belgium, Portugal, Italy and many other countries; where women started coming together and  gluing the names of women who were murdered by their former or current partner,  in order to honor them all the while denouncing the inaction of public authorities in combating systemic violence against women.

Marguerite then took the initiative to create a page on Instagram entitled « Collages Féminicides Paris », where she published photos of these collages. Later, she gave administrator access to two women who have been managing this instagram account. Recently, they have announced the release of a book that claims to tell the story  of the collages movement since its inception.

We see this as a deceitful and false rewrite of the genesis of the movement, a body of evidence constituting intellectual property theft ;

• Marguerite is cited as having participated in the creation of the movement when in fact she is its sole creator
• The existence of defamatory statements in the book and constant harassment against her (transphobic tweets)
• The book contains inaccuracies and inconsistencies in the chronology of the movement
• The distortion of the very essence of the movement in this book which contains photos of collages advocating for prostitution
• The inaccurate transcript of Marguerite’s first collage, which shows a serious breach of journalistic ethics in France, namely « truth, rigor and accuracy, integrity, fairness and accountability »

In light of this, the publishing house Éditions DENOËL of the Gallimard Group, and the administrators of the Instagram account « Collages Féminicides Paris » were asked, prior to the book’s publication on October 28, 2021, to correct these inaccuracies so that the artistic parentage is rightly established. These requests were denied.

The purpose of this petition is to report on the negligence of Éditions DENOËL, regarding its shared responsibility with the author in the event of defamation, and to also demand that :

1. The book be withdrawn from sale until it has been amended, to ensure that Marguerite Stern will not be disowned of her work and the intellectual property rights attached to it
2. The inaccuracies on the general history of the movement are corrected
3. The photographer, Pauline Makoveitchoux, is specifically mentioned, as having documented the movement since its birth
